Setting graduate goals is notoriously difficult. In 2023, over one-third of surveyed graduate enrollment leaders reported missing their headcount goals but despite this, nearly 60% faced increased goals for 2024. Establishing graduate enrollment goals is complicated by the outsized role of faculty in determining program capacity, limited student and market data, and the sheer variety of graduate programs and the students they serve. Although the specific metrics that should inform graduate enrollment goals may vary, data analysis is a universal first step in goal-setting.
